I find this style of play fascinating, it's quite different than sitting around a table together or in a virtual meeting, where you can discuss how to proceed. It's one reason to have a channel like this, for "Out Of Character" discussions.
It does mean that the each person has to consider how they write their character's "In Character" posts. For example, Alisha's post for Amethist and the door uses the words "...and opens it, peeking inside." I feel that as DM, I have to take that as an action that Amethist has already done, so I'll give information in my next DM post for what Amethist sees and what may occur because of the opening the door action.
Now the way Alisha wrote it may be accidental, or it could be intentional and is completely within Amethist's character to make her own decision without consulting the group, so Alisha is just role-playing the character. Or there may be a host of other reasons it's written that way. I am not making a judgement and just guessing as to why.
So consider that if Alisha wanted to make it a potential action for the character, she could have written it as: "...and attempts to open the door to see what is inside." Then as DM, I would react differently. Again, @scigrrl, I'm not making a judgement or trying to tell you to do anything different at all, just saying that this is a good example of different ways to handle a situation as a player in this type of play. It's one aspect of this that I find fascinating, how open ended this is making the game.
I am curious what you all think of this play style too. I had read that for some people it's more difficult, because the story does not move forward very quickly at all. For others that may be more introverted in a face to face setting, it gives the opportunity to be more involved. I know that personally, I've never considered myself a creative writer, and this form seems to encourage more creative writing. Thoughts? (edited)
